What is the meaning of inclusive terminology? Inclusive language is a form of communication that avoids using words, expressions or assumptions that would stereotype, demean or exclude people.
This new national standard for Information technology - Inclusive Terminology proposes to address requirements, recommendations, and guidance on the use of inclusive terminology for human and machine-readable contexts in the information and communication technology sector. Inclusive terminology is terminology perceived or likely to be perceived as neutral or welcoming by everyone, regardless of their sex, gender, race, color, religion, etc.
Our goal is to maximize awareness and adoption of the standard and we're thrilled to announce that once published, INCITS will make the standard freely available to the public. This move is expected to encourage more organizations and individuals to adopt the standard, helping to ensure that everyone is included and respected.
Additionally, we are happy to inform users that the Inclusive Terminology Guidelines developed by INCITS in 2022 are also publicly available for reference. This document provides guidelines on the use of inclusive language in technology standards and is a step towards promoting diversity and inclusivity in the tech industry.
